Event Recap: PKD Walk 2015

Last Saturday a group of TSP’ers here in Columbus had an amazing time supporting our teammate, Mandy Trail, at the Central Ohio PKD Walk. Mandy, her mother, Bonnie, sister, Sarah, and brother, Toby, all suffer from Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), an inherited disorder in which clusters of cysts develop primarily within your kidneys.

There are medical treatments and lifestyle changes that can help reduce complications, such as high blood pressure, but there is no current cure for PKD. Once kidney failure takes places, patients have two choices, dialysis or transplant. PKD occurs in approximately 1 in 500, affecting 14.2 million people, and it is the 8th leading cause of death in the United States.

Since 2001 over $24 million has been raised to fight this disease from walks across the country. This was the first year the Central Ohio PKD Walk met, and exceeded, their goal of $15,000. With Mandy being the walk coordinator this year, this comes as no surprise to us! Our TSP team raised $2342 and Mandy's family raised $835, for a combined total of $3177! The Walk is currently at $17,052 and still counting.

We’ll see you at the walk next year! You can check out pictures from the event on our Facebook page.
