You Found Me. You Can Find Others Like Me.

"If you found me, you can find others like me."

This was the beginning of a conversation I recently had with a Director of Chemistry and Preformulation at a startup clinical stage pharmaceutical company in Boston.  I was working on another search for a Director of Preformulation for a client that has a very niche, propriety technology used in drug delivery. After doing my due diligence, I quickly identified all the competitors and began my recruiting process. As I began combing through LinkedIn profiles and resumes, I came across the Director, Chemistry and Preformulation, who we’ll call, John. John was happy to take my call and ask me questions about the position, along with sharing more about his background.

After about 10 minutes of discussion, John complimented me on my knowledge in the space and my understanding of the technology. Although he determined the position wasn’t of interest to him, that’s when he said the magic words... "If you found me, then you can find others like me." It was a statement, not a question. My mind quickly snapped into “client service mode” and I began asking him questions about his current need. It turned out, he needed a critical hire for his team in this same niche area.

After a few back and forth discussions, he agreed to team up with us and we began scouring the country in search of an individual with one of the most unique/niche skill sets I’ve seen in this industry.

So, how’s this search going?

We were able to present a qualified candidate to him within 3 days of opening the search, and have since been able to present several others. He is very pleased with our work, and we are working together to determine timing of onsite interviews and how to continue our successful working relationship.

I wanted to share this story with you because it’s a great reminder that we are in the “people service” business. We’re here to help others, and every call is an opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade.
